twitter suspension loop from hell

I’ve been on Twitter / X since late 2023, I made two accounts, one for work / work related things and one for gaming and general geekery.

In the beginning I wasn’t very active on either account, but eventually I stumbled over UwU-Underground while on my gaming account. Since cyber security is my hobby as well as my line of work, I gave them a follow and thanked them for their inspirational and very educational music and soon found myself in their community. Over time I made many friends and connections in the cyber security field and most of them connected with me on my gaming account.

Eventually I decided to fight the slop a bit and removed my gaming account but kept my @hoelihodet account, and after a little over a year in hiatus I decided to be more active. This was in June this year (2026), and thats when the fun began…

I made a single post, rewteeted a few posts and added some follows that I had on my old account. Responded to a friend on a DM who quickly noticed I was active again on twitter. When I logged in the following day, I got a message saying my account had gotten suspended due to violation of the rules regarding inauthentic behavior. I was a little puzzled by this, but contacted support as instructed, explained what I had done the previous day. A couple of days later my account was unsuspended.

Happy ending right? Right???

Not so fast, the next day, suspended again for the same reason.
Here is the exact message that I got:

Your account is suspended
After careful review, we determined your account broke the X Rules. 
Your account is permanently in read-only mode, which means you can’t post, Repost, or Like content. 
You won’t be able to create new accounts. If you think we got this wrong, you can submit an appeal.

I’ll forgive you for like me potentially believing the careful review the message claims, but a quick search with your favorite seach engine will quickly show that I am far from the only person with this issue, as apparently twitter / x has been banning tons of users for the same thing, leaving them in the dark without giving any actual information as to what the user did that constituted a violation.

I am currently on my 8 or 9th suspension, I thought maybe it could have been my profile image since I made that with Dall-E ages ago, but it’s also the profile picture I use on all my other social sites. I explained my reasoning to twitter / x staff this morning and got unsuspended this afternood, so the first thing I did was change it to an image I made years ago in paint, and then wrote a post on twitter…

Seconds later…suspended again…

The infuriating part is that you just get stuck in a loop that goes:

In my appeals I have ofcourse requested actual proof or an explanation of what I did that constituted a violation, but the only emails and responses I’ve gotten during the process are:

Not once have they given any supporting evidence like, your profile picture appears to be AI generated, though I suppose we can rule that out now.

The funny thing is, my wife has an account that has an AI generated profile picture, reposts and likes pretty much the same posts I do on my account, and uses the same VPN, yet has not been hit once by this weird issue.

But I suppose I should be thankful to twitter / x and their clearly dysfunctional support systems for giving me the push I needed to get my little blogg site going.

Being my curious self though, I intend to keep at it to find out how far down the hole goes.
For those of you who are looking for better options mastodon seems just about the best alternative.
